FORMER members of a long-running children’s choir have been invited to take part in a reunion celebration.

The Darlington branch of the Salvation Army has had a choir since 1935, with almost 300 members over the decades.

The organisers of a Singing Company and Timbrel Group Reunion Weekend, to be held at the Darlington Citadel, on April 13 and 14, have so far managed to track down 191 former members, but are looking for more.

A number of pictures of the choir through the years have been released in the hope of jogging the memories of people who may have been members.

A Salvation Army spokeswoman said: “We have researched and tracked a list of 287 former members, spanning eight decades and have already contacted 191, many of whom are still in the local area.

“Others have been discovered in various parts of the UK, while some have turned up as far afield as America and Australia. This still leaves a large group we have been unable to find.”

The reunion event will start at 10am on Saturday, April 13, when the hall will be filled with music and photographs. A musical celebration will take place at 6.30pm.

On Sunday there will be a family service at 10.45pm and a Songs of Praise at 4pm.

Anyone who belonged to the choir as a child is asked to call 01325-380994, email darlingtonsalvationarmy@hotmail.co.uk or write to The Salvation Army Citadel, Thompson Street East, Darlington, DL1 3EW.
