A LONG-standing patient of a doctors’ surgery has been given the honour of opening its new pharmacy.

Bob Rippon, who has been a patient of Denmark Street Surgery, in Darlington, since 1957, was asked to cut the ribbon on the Late Night Pharmacy in recognition of his contribution to the practice.

Mr Rippon spent many years doing odd jobs around the practice, which included making desks and shelves for the consulting rooms, and formed good relationships with the staff and doctors.

The late night pharmacy at Denmark Street Surgery is a joint venture between the GPs and Community Pharmacies (UK)and will open seven-days-a-week.

It has created ten jobs to provide a healthcare resource to the local community.

A spokesman for the surgery said: “The practice felt it appropriate to ask Bob to join them in the opening ceremony of another venture for the practice, having already seen them through four extensions and the purchase of the annexe building during his time as a patient here at Denmark Street.”

The Denmark Street Late Night Pharmacy is open Monday to Saturday, 7am to 10.30pm, and Sundays between 10am and 5pm. The pharmacy team can be contacted on 01325-482498 or email info@denmarkstreetpharmacy.co.uk
