A DRUNK man who wanted to help the police arrest someone ended up in handcuffs himself.
Darlington Magistrates’ Court heard today (Tuesday, March 19) that Darren Cummins was outside a pub on Houndgate on March 10 when he approached police officers who were dealing with another matter.
Prosecutor John Garside said 28-year-old Cummins was in a drunken state and went to ‘offer his assistance’ to the police officers who repeatedly told him to go away.
Cummins ignored their requests and became abusive so he was arrested and handcuffed.
He struggled and pulled himself away from a female officer who suffered minor injuries to her hand.
In court, Cummins, of Jasmine Crescent, Trimdon, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and to obstructing a police officer and was fined £35 and £65 for both offences respectively.
He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to the officer, £85 in court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
