YOUNGSTERS in Sadberge are planning to spend a day during their half term making a difference for the older residents in the village.
Aged between four and 12, the group of youngsters will spend Halloween treating, not tricking, members of the community.
They will make gifts of pretty dolly bags filled with homemade peppermint creams, and will spend the afternoon visiting the elderly who may not easily get out, or perhaps have few visitors.
Organiser, Millie Scaife believes it is a win-win situation: “It enables children to meet some of their neighbours and realise they benefit from this small act of kindness.
“It is important to nurture a caring community and taking part in this national volunteering effort really does make a difference for all.”
This year CSV ‘Make A Difference Day’, the UK’s biggest single day of volunteering, takes place between October 20 and November 4, while Sadberge’s event is on Wednesday.
Preparations take place at the village hall, with a sausage sandwich lunch and pumpkin carving also part of the day, before the children go in small groups to distribute their gifts.
