AN “outstanding” former teacher paid a visit to her former school to honour the pupils she used to teach.

Retired English teacher, Barbara Still, presented former year 11 pupils at Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, with a number of awards and special prizes at their annual leavers’ presentation evening.

Ms Still joined the school in 1972 as an English teacher before eventually becoming assistant principal. She retired in July this year.

During the evening, headteacher Pat Howarth praised the students for their excellent exam results, as well as thanking them for the wider contribution they had made to the life of the school during their time there.

Prizes were given to a number of students, including the Dorothy Cameron Award for outstanding exam results, which was presented to Sarah Bremner and Kieran Lobbs.

Over 90 per cent of this year’s GCSE results were grade C or above, putting the academy in the top ten per cent of schools in England.
