FOUR footballers have teamed up with students to take part in a charity fashion show to raise funds for a learning disability charity.

Darlington FC players Leon Scott, Joe Tait, Amar and Arjun Purewal joined students from Darlington College for the fashion show organised by Darlington Rotary Club in aid of Mencap.

More than 300 people turned out to see the show, held at the college, and spend their money at the wide range of Christmas stalls that were at the event.

The footballers and students modeled clothes from a wide range of Darlington shops including Ruby’s, Boudoir, Geoffrey Gillow, Affleck and Moffatt and Leggs.

Darlington Golf Club and Darlington College Art and Design also took part, as well as young people who have been helped by Mencap, who took to the catwalk at the end of the evening.

Rotarian Sue Campbell, who organised the event, said: “It was the college’s idea to get the footballers along. The students thought it would be nice.”

Speaking before the show Leon Scott, from Darlington FC, said: “I am a bit worried, a bit nervous. It’s for the charity that we’re doing it. We know all the money is going to Mencap.”

Roland Lang, President of the Rotary Club, said: “It’s been a spectacular night. It was a wonderful experience, especially sitting on the front row.

“We have helped Mencap out in the last few months. They need volunteers. They seem a wonderful organisation and we are very proud to support them.”
