THE following cases were heard today (Tuesday) at Darlington Magistrates’ Court:

CANNABIS GROWER: Gareth Robert Swainston, 28, of Rockwell Avenue, Darlington, pleaded guilty to one charge of producing cannabis at an address in Gainford, County Durham. He was given a 12-month community order with a four-week curfew between 7pm and 7am. He must also complete 80 hours of unpaid work in the community and pay court costs of £85.

DRINK DRIVE: Tracey Ann Wilson, 44, of Boyes Hill Grove, Darlington, admitted driving while above the alcohol limit. The court was told that she was stopped by police after hitting the kerb while driving along the trunk road near Haughton Road at 8am on October 10. Tests showed she had 142mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg. She was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £120. She was also disqualified from driving for three years.

TRACK TRESPASS: Barry Waters, 32, of Haughton Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop and one count of trespass on a railway. The shop thefts took place on October 1, when £37 worth of meat was taken from Sainsbury’s, and October 6, when he stole £70 worth of meat from Asda. He also admitted trespass on the East Coast Main Line near Darlington railway station. He was ordered to continue with existing community orders and given a 16-week curfew between 7am and 11am and 6pm and 1am.

RESIST PC: Jason Joseph Crompton, 40, of Barron Street, Darlington, admitted the use of threatening words and behaviour and resisting a police officer in the execution of their duty. He was fined £50 in total and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20.

EXCESS ALCOHOL: Klaudiusz Malecki, 36, of St Peters Close, Catterick Garrison, pleaded guilty to driving while above the alcohol limit and driving without third party insurance while on East Mount Road, in Darlington, on August 25. He was fined a total £440 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £15. He was also disqualified from driving for three years.
