POLICE investigating the disappearance of chef Claudia Lawrence do not believe she was involved with "multiple partners" at the time she went missing, it was reported tonight.
An update on the case, shown on the BBC's Crimewatch this evening, addressed widespread speculation surrounding Miss Lawrence's personal life.
The 35-year-old has not been seen since March 18 and failed to turn up for a 6am shift at York University the following morning.
North Yorkshire Police have classified their investigation as one of suspected murder.
Det Supt Ray Galloway, who is leading the investigation, said on Crimewatch last month that he believed Miss Lawrence was involved in relationships of "complexity and mystery".
Tonight, in a brief update, the show's presenter Rav Wilding said: "Since our programme there has been widespread speculation about Claudia's relationships, which were described as "complex and mysterious".
"Police do not believe Claudia had multiple partners at the time of her disappearance, but are saying her relationships are key to solving this case."
Mr Wilding also said that since the televised appeal last month a witness had come forward over a couple seen fighting on Melrosegate Bridge, in York, on March 18.
Last week Miss Lawrence's friend Suzie Cooper dismissed reports the chef may have had affairs with up to 40 married men, some at the same time, as "wholly inaccurate".
Ms Cooper said: "She may have had a couple of affairs in her 35 years but this should not detract from the kind, loyal, and loving person she is.
"She is not interested in wealth and she certainly does not target married men.
"The allegation that she has had 30 to 40 affairs with married men is wholly inaccurate."
