PROJECTS to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War will be launched at Middlesbrough Central Library on Saturday (November 16).

The free event in the town's Centre Square will feature re-enactments, poetry, workshops, music, children’s activities, stalls and refreshments.

A memorabilia event is being held from 10.30am to 3pm, the role of women will be examined from 11am to 11.45am and visitors can discover how to research their wartime ancestors.

Talks on ‘life in the trenches’ from 12.30pm to 1.15pm and ‘literature in the trenches’ from 2pm to 2.45pm are being held along with a session aimed at children by the Tees Valley Music Service called ‘remembering old time music hall’ is taking place from 2pm to 3pm.

A vintage tea shop run by the nearby The Olde Young Tea House will be serving hot drinks and cakes from 10.30am to 3pm.
