A COUNCIL’S youngest member has grown a moustache for a month to raise money for charity.
Labour’s Thomas Nearney was elected to represent Annfield Plain on Durham County Council last year, aged 19.
He resisted using the razor throughout November, as part of the Movember initiative to raise money for charities working in men’s health.
Cllr Nearney was joined by his father John and between them they raised more than £100, including a £20 donation from council chairman John Robinson.
Mr Nearney said: “My wife can’t stand it. It’s been a month since I gave her a kiss.”
His son added: “I can’t wait to drink tea and coffee again without leaving a watermark.”
Cllr Robinson said: “I’m pleased to see them both supporting a wonderful cause.”
Movember has raised £346m, funding more than 800 programmes in 21 countries helping men whose lives have been affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer or mental health issues.
