POLICE investigating the death of a woman in Darlington have confirmed she died from stab wounds.

A murder investigation was launched in the early hours of this morning after the death of 61-year-old Pamela Glen, also known as Pamela Turner.

Officers were called to a report of a woman being stabbed at a flat in Springhill, Darlington, at 11.30pm last night.

She was given first aid at the scene, and taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where she was pronounced dead at 1.30am today.

Durham Police said Ms Glen was a mother of two grown up daughters, who is believed to have lived alone in a council flat at Springhill.

A post mortem examination carried out this afternoon concluded her death was due to stab wounds.

A 61-year-old man from Darlington has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is tonight being questioned at Darlington police station.

The area around Ms Glen's flat has been cordoned off to allow for full forensic examination of the scene, which is likely to take some time.

House-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the immediate area of the flats.

Police want speak to anyone who heard or saw any kind of disturbance in the Springhill flats area yesterday evening, October 19, or anyone who was in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Fuller, who is leading the murder inquiry, said today: “It’s important that we establish the exact sequence of events leading up to Pamela’s death.

“We’ve already interviewed a number of key witnesses but still need to speak anyone who may have noticed any unusual activity in this area last night or heard any kind of disturbance.

“We will also be speaking to Pamela’s family, friends and associates so that we can build up a picture of her lifestyle and daily routine.”

Anyone with information should ring 101 and ask for the incident room at Bishop Auckland.
