AN artist who found fame with her illustrations for children's programmes such as Bagpuss and Jackanory unveiled a retrospective exhibition of her work at the Bowes Museum tonight (Friday, October 19).
The exhibition features an extensive range of work from Linda Birch's 40-year career.
The Hamsterley-based artist said: “Sometimes I look at stuff I did a long time ago and wonder if it was really me.
“It is like looking back at a path you have trodden and wondering how turnings take you where they did – and I am very happy with the path I have taken.
“My career has given me enormous job satisfaction.”
Now 65, Ms Birch continues her work as an artist, writer – and teacher of a monthly class at the Bowes Museum which looks at historical painting methods.
A preview is being held at the Bowes Museum tonight and the exhibition continues until February 17 next year.
