DETAILED plans on the controversial development of an academy school and leisure centre on the Belle Vue site in Consett go on display on Monday (October 22).

Consultation on the detailed plans for the development is being held ahead of the submission of a formal planning application.

Outline planning permission was granted in March 2010 and Durham County Council is holding an open evening.

It is at the North Campus of Consett Academy, on Durham Road, Blackhill, Consett, from 4pm to 8pm.

Representatives from the council and the academy will be on hand to answer questions and take comments.

David Theobald, the council’s project director, said: “As part of a separate process, the council’s Highways Committee is considering an application to register part of the site as a village green. “A decision on this is expected in January 2013, and the project will not proceed until this matter has been resolved.

“We look forward to input into this important project.”

The plans will also be on display at Consett Library from Monday until Monday, October 29 where there will also be a facility to leave comments.

Residents can also send comments directly to the council via e-mail on bsf@durham.gov.uk
