AN Elvis impersonator will perform tonight to raise money for a team of amateur boxers heading for Las Vegas.

Five fighters from Consett YMCA Amateur Boxing Club are heading for Nevada, in April, with boxers from Finchley, to form a UK team to take on the Americans.

Twenty years ago head coach Gary McCrory took his brother Glenn, a former cruiserweight world champion, to The Riviera Hotel when he beat Mark ‘the Storm’ Young in the penultimate fight of his professional career.

Gary McCrory said: “Of all the hotels in all of Las Vegas, to be going back to the one I took my brother to with my amateur lads is incredible.

“It is like a dream come true.”

The Consett team includes Fraser and Graham Neill, from Shotley Bridge, Nathan Howie, from Hexham, Ryan Parker, from Consett, and Kyle Beresford, from Delves Lane.

Singer Adam Carter, from Satley, near Consett, is performing as Elvis tonight at Delves Lane Community Bar.

Organised by Mr McCrory’s wife, Alison, tickets cost £10 and proceeds will go towards raising the £3,000 needed to fund the Las Vegas trip.

An evening of boxing is being held at the bar on Wednesday, November 14, to raise money for the club and the trip.

Entry is £12 and doors open for both events at 7pm.
