AN Elvis impersonator will perform tomorrow night (October 19) to raise money for a team of amateur boxers who are heading for Las Vegas.

Five fighters from Consett YMCA Amateur Boxing Club are heading for Nevada next April to take part in a tournament with boxers from Finchley to form a UK team to take on the Americans on their home turf.

Twenty years ago head coach Gary McCrory took his brother Glenn, a former cruiserweight world champion to The Riviera Hotel when he beat Mark ‘the Storm’ Young in the penultimate fight of his professional career.

Gary McCrory said: “Of all the hotels in all of Las Vegas, to be going back to the one I took my brother to with my amateur lads is incredible. It is like a dream come true.”

The Consett team includes Fraser and Graham Neil, from Shotley Bridge, Nathan Howie, from Hexham, Ryan Parker, from Consett and Kyle Beresford, from Delves Lane.

Singer Adam Carter, from Satley, near Consett, is performing as Elvis tomorrow night at Delves Lane Community Bar.

Organised by Mr McCrory’s wife, Alison, tickets cost £10 and proceeds will go towards raising the £3,000 needed to fund the Las Vegas trip.

An evening of boxing is being held at the bar on November 14 to raise money for the club and the trip. Entry is £12. Doors open for both events at 7pm.
