A TEENAGER was fatally injured while trying to move his step-mother’s car off the road, police have revealed.
Dominic Scarre, 19, from Finchale, near Durham, died on Wednesday morning when he was struck by a Ford Transit van on the eastbound A689 near Sedgefield, County Durham.
His step-mother’s Peugeot 406 had run out of fuel and Mr Scarre had got out to push it onto the kerb when the van hit him.
Mr Scarre’s stepmother, 32, from Willington, suffered minor injuries.
The 27-year-old van driver, from Meadowfield, was also treated for minor injuries before being arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Mr Scarre’s parents have said they feel utterly devastated by the tragedy, which happened at 7.50am on Wednesday.
