POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for information about an incident in which 13 vehicles were damaged on the A1.

A truck left a trail of debris on the northbound carriageway near Londonderry, Bedale, North Yorkshire, last week.

The vehicle which caused the damage did not stop, but police have launched an investigation regarding the actions of a tipper truck which was seen at about the same time, 7pm, on the day of the accident, Tuesday, October 9, with a shredded tyre, parked on the slip road off the A1 at Leeming Bar.

Traffic Constable Tony Leonard said: “This is an important line of inquiry, to understand how the multiple collision occurred.

“If anyone remembers seeing this vehicle parked on the off slip at Leeming Bar or witnessed the tyre damage it sustained while on the northbound carriageway of the A1 in the Bedale area, please contact me as soon as possible.”

Mr Leonard can be contacted on 101.
