A YOUNG man has been killed in an accident on a North East road this morning.
The collision involving two vehicles occurred at around 7.50am on the A689 at Sedgefield, County Durham, past the Sands End roundabout towards the A177.
A 19-year-old man from the Stockton area was pronounced dead by a Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) doctor at the scene.
A GNAA spokesperson said: "We attended a seriously injured patient on the A689 but despite the best efforts of the crew the patient unfortunately died."
Police are currently at the scene and expect the road to remain closed until around lunchtime, diversions are in place.
Witnesses are being sought and accident investigators want to hear from anyone who saw a broken down Peugeot 406 along the road before 7.50am this morning.
