AMATEUR runners from across the North-East have taken part in a 10km race through challenging countryside.
Craig Isherwood, of Sunderland Harriers, came first in the Hellhole 10k multi terrain race in Stanley over the weekend, with a time of 36 min and 41 seconds.
Described as a course with a little bit of everything by the organisers, the race takes in part of the coast-to-coast cycle route, local paths and a muddy burst through Hellhole wood, near Beamish.
Race secretary John Donneky said: “It couldn’t have gone much better. A big thanks to all the volunteers, runners, Sustrans for the use of their cycle paths and our sponsor Stanley Town Council.”
Both men’s and ladies team prizes were won by Blackhill Bounders.
Organised annually by Derwentside Athletic Club, the race attracted 96 entrants.
