BASKETBALL players proved they were good sports after taking part in an international YMCA world record attempt.

Members of Darlington YMCA welcomed counterparts from the Tees Valley to help try to shoot the highest number of hoops in one day.

Featuring millions of players across the world, the basketball marathon saw Darlington members play their part at Darlington College, in Haughton Road, Darlington, with similar events taking place across the North-East.

Kath McColl, a spokeswoman for Darlington College, said: “It was a great day and we were delighted to play a part in the record attempt.

“There were YMCA members, sports students and members of the public who came along and they had a great time.”

The official result of the record attempt will be revealed in coming weeks.
