AIR ambulance staff from the South-East have thanked their North-East counterparts for coming to their aid during a charity cycle ride.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called to take two people to hospital who had been involved in an accident close to Rosedale Abbey, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, last Thursday.
On arrival, they discovered the pair were paramedics from the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Service.
Richard Company and Rachel Borne suffered severe facial injuries in the crash.
They were flown to the The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after receiving treatment at the scene.
The cyclists were on the final day of a coast-to-coast charity ride when the accident happened.
Before they left on the helicopter, the injured cyclists urged their colleagues to finish the challenge. The remaining team members arrived in Scarborough later that day, still managing to complete the route in three days.
The group raised more than £2,000 in sponsorship.
Sarah Williamson, fundraising manager for Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, said: “We are so grateful to our fantastic crew and their friends for this fantastic achievement and wish our two paramedics a speedy recovery".
