A SHOPPING event expected to raise thousands of pounds for charity was packed with eager bargain-hunters for two days.

This year’s Durham Shopping Extravaganza was held on Wednesday and yesterday at the Wynyard rooms, at Wynyard Park House, near Stockton, and there were 70 stalls selling everything from clothing to food.

The two-day event was opened by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and raised money for Willow Burn Hospice, in Lanchester, north Durham, Todys, which helps disabled children, and Fishing with Tom, which promotes healthy living.

A spokeswoman said: “This year is a very exciting year for the extravaganza.

“Not only did we move to an exciting new venue but the event was opened by Baroness Tanni Grey- Thompson.”

Baroness Grey- Thompson, of Eaglescliffe, is best known for having won 16 Paralympic medals, 13 World Championship medals and for winning the London Marathon six times.
