THE mother of a murdered teenager is launching a series of fundraising events to mark the tenth anniversary of his death.

Chris Cave, from Redcar, east Cleveland, was stabbed to death in June 2003 by Sean Matson, who had been on a drinks and drugs binge.

The Chris Cave Foundation was set up in memory of the 17-year-old by his mother, Theresa, who has kept her son’s legacy alive by campaigning tirelessly against knife crime.

Mrs Cave said: “Through the Chris Cave Foundation, we hope to keep his memory alive and his caring spirit is our inspiration to help all of those affected by violent crimes.”

The foundation, set up in 2008, offers help and support to families and communities affected by violent crime. It is also fighting for stronger antiknife laws in the UK and works to encourage young people to stay away from crime.

It is hoped T Big 10, a series of events in memory of Chris, will raise £10,000 for the charities Through Unity, Knife- Crimes.org and Partner Ghana.

The events range from a night at Sunderland Dogs on Friday, October 26, to a winter fair on Saturday, December 1.

A bungee jump from Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge will take place on February 23, and there will be a 1940s Party at the Claxton Hotel, in Redcar, on March 9. A charity football match will also take place at the Riverside Stadium in May and anyone interested in playing is asked to contact the foundation.

Tickets are on sale for all events. For details, contact thechris cavefoundation@ gmail.com. For details about the foundation’s work, go to @ccavefoundation on Twitter.
