A MAN was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was assaulted on Saturday night.
The attack on a 35-year-old man happened in Church Street, Houghton-le-Spring, Wearside, at about 11.05pm.
He was taken by ambulance to Sunderland Royal Hospital with head and other injuries.
His injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Police yesterday appealed for anyone who was in the area at this time and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact officers.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are helping police with their inquiries.
