THE chairman of Cleveland Police Authority has said Sean Price's attitude was "completely unacceptable" following his sacking.

The chair of the disciplinary panel, Joanna Greenberg QC, concluded there was “no doubt that Mr Price’s conduct breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour both in respect of honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct as set out in the schedule to the regulations”.

Furthermore, “the most serious allegation found proved against Mr Price is that he persuaded a member of staff to lie in the course of an investigation into his alleged misconduct. As such he was seeking to pervert the course of justice.”

The conclusion means that a further misconduct hearing for Mr Price relating to eleven other matters in respect of gross misconduct will now no longer take place.

Mr Price is no longer a police officer and therefore cannot be subject to the police disciplinary process.

He remains on police bail pending further enquiries in relation to Operation Sacristy.

Chair of Cleveland Police Authority Stuart Drummond said: “As a police officer, and particularly as a Chief Constable, Sean Price’s behaviour and attitude over this matter was completely unacceptable and the sanction imposed is wholly appropriate.

“His actions have seriously undermined his reputation and his credibility.

“I am pleased that the witnesses in this process have found the courage and strength to make a stand and challenge the most senior person in the force.

"I know that this has been an extremely difficult time for all those involved but they can take comfort from knowing they have done the right thing.

“Cleveland Police is a strong force, and is full of officers and staff dedicated to serving and protecting the public, and reducing crime.

"I know that they will continue to do that under the leadership of the Temporary Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer.”
