A FEMALE doctor was asked to leave a gym after fellow members complained the denim skirt she was wearing was “inappropriate”.
Sy Parker was exercising at DW Sports Fitness Club, in Middlesbrough, when a member of staff told her they had received complaints about the way she was dressed.
The 26-year-old junior doctor at Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital, said: “I was in the free weight section when a member of staff came up to me and said they wanted me to leave because I was dressed inappropriately.
“I was shocked. I have worn a skirt to exercise in before – there is more freedom to move. I was also wearing massive pants underneath – I didn’t want to be flashing anything inappropriate.”
Ms Parker, who has been a member of the gym at Middlesbrough Leisure Park for three months, added: “The next day I went in wearing tiny shorts and a crop top and no one said anything about that.”
A spokeswoman for DW Sports Fitness said: “We always respectfully ask our members to wear comfortable and suitable clothing when attending the gyms.
“In this instance the member’s short denim skirt caused some members to complain and, therefore, she was asked by staff to wear something a bit more appropriate.”
