YOUNGSTERS will get lessons in safety next week with a little help from the police.
From Monday, members of the Catchgate Neighbourhood Police Team are taking part in a series of events in six schools in the Stanley area - Catchgate Primary, Annfield Plain Infants, Annfield Plain Juniors, St Joseph’s, Shield Row Primary and Tanfield Primary.
Nearly 1,200 children will get a variety of safety messages including visits from police dogs Jet and Ben, as well as advice on online protection, road safety and anti-social behaviour.
On the final day all of the children will receive a reflective bag and a flashing red light that attaches to their coat zip to increase their visibility when attending and leaving school during the darker mornings and nights PC Craig Johnson said: "There are a lot of safety messages to get across to youngsters and this is a very effective way of delivering them.
"We hope they find it enjoyable as well as useful."
