A DRIVER has been arrested following the death of a 41-year-old man in a three-car pile-up.
The collision, on the B6265 Boroughbridge Road, near the Copt Hewick junction, at 10.30am, on Sunday, September 23, involved a black Fiat hatchback travelling towards Ripon, hitting a blue Volkswagen hatchback and a red Mercedes, which were both heading towards Boroughbridge.
Lloyd Edwards, of Ripon, a passenger in the Mercedes was taken to Harrogate District Hospital suffering severe injuries following the collision and died two days later.
The driver of the Mercedes, a woman in her fifties from the Ripon area sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Fiat, a local man in his 20s also received hospital treatment and has been arrested today over the collision.
He is currently in police custody for questioning.
The occupants of the Volkswagen were uninjured.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the black Fiat hatchback beforehand to call TC Tracy Smales on 101 or email tracy.smales@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
