A SECTION of the northbound A1 in North Yorkshire, closed by flooding, has re-opened.
One lane of the northbound carriageway at Hackforth, just south of Catterick , was re-opened to traffic at 3.45pm today after round-the-clock work by the Highways Agency and its contractors to clear flood water.
The southbound carriageway, which was also closed around Catterick was fully re-opened to traffic yesterday after successful work to clear flood water there and along sections of the A19 and A66 in Cleveland.
Drivers are being advised that while the A1 is now open again one lane of the northbound carriageway - the inside lane - will remain closed to allow flood water to be continued to be pumped away from the carriageway.
This lane will re-open to traffic as soon as it is safe to do so and flood water running from the saturated surrounding land has subsided.
