A NEIGHBOUR from hell has been jailed after “causing chaos” in her street with loud late-night music and constant rows and threats.
Anne Mariner, who has 417 offences on her criminal record, made life miserable for those living nearby in Darlington for months.
A court heard she threatened one neighbour who complained to police, saying: “Watch your back – I’m going to slash you up.”
Earlier, she had yelled at the same woman: “Get out here, I’m going to kill you. All your windows are going in.
"I’m going to send the boys around.”
Jenny Haigh, prosecuting, said Mariner also threatened to attack another neighbour and said: “Basically, she caused chaos and disruption.”
The 43-year-old’s barrister, Ian West, said: “It usually comes to nothing with Anne Mariner. It is threats. She is good at making her mouth go.”
Teesside Crown Court heard how Mariner has since been evicted and her main target, who she had “developed a hatred” for, has moved.
Miss Haigh said trouble flared in Aldam Street, off North Road, in May, a year after Mariner was released from prison for setting fire to her former home.
She confronted a neighbour at a bus stop and said: “There are a few people coming for you tonight to smash your face in. You’ll be frightened.”
Mr West said tattooed Mariner’s criminal record was dismal, but said: “No serious harm or no serious violence was done to anybody.”
He said Mariner had struggled to cope with the death of her partner on Christmas Eve, and returned to heavy drinking and shoplifting.
On August 2, she assaulted the manager and a security guard from Morrisons, in North Road, Darlington, when she was stopped stealing whisky. One neighbour told The Northern Echo: “She could blow hot and cold – one day she was fine and the other she wasn’t.
“She used to belt loud music out at all hours and sometimes she would be shouting and screaming in the street.
“I also heard her shouting in the road at the woman who lived next door to her.
“I don’t know if she had any problems with other people in the street, but I do remember her next door neighbour’s windows being smashed.”
Mariner admitted two common assaults, theft and witness intimidation, and was jailed for 50 weeks.
