POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man and a woman were hurt in a twocar accident yesterday.
The accident happened shortly before 7am at Longwood Bank, between Richmond and Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire. The 29- year-old female driver of a blue Renault Clio and the 27- year-old male driver of a silver Vauxhall Corsa suffered serious, but not lifethreatening, injuries. The Vauxhall was heading towards Richmond, while the Renault was travelling in the opposite direction. The road was closed for several hours. Witnesses, including the drivers of a white panel van and a red Seat who were heading towards Richmond, have been asked to call police on 101.
RACE INVITE: Registration is open for a 5km run that will be followed by a large fireworks festival in York on November 5. The Gunpowder Plod and Fireworks Festival will take place at York Knavesmire on bonfire night. More than 500 people have already signed up to the race. The run will be followed by the biggest fireworks display at the site in 17 years. There will also be activities including bungeetrampolines, bouncy castles and slides, a treasure trail and storytelling tent. To register for the run or book tickets to the fireworks, visit gunpowderplod.com RUNAWAY HORSE: A van and a Ford Focus car were damaged when a horse and trap went out of control on Woodhouse Close Estate, Bishop Auckland , at about 1.50pm yesterday. The owner has yet to be traced. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
MAN ASSAULTED: A 53-yearold man was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was beaten when he challenged two youths trying to rob a woman in Victoria Place, Washington , Wearside , at 11pm on Saturday. A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested.
CRASH APPEAL: A blue Ford Transit van and a silver Citroen Saxo were involved in an accident on the eastbound A688 at the South Church roundabout, Bishop Auckland, between 9.10am and 9.25am on Saturday. No one was seriously hurt.
