POLICE hunting a sex attacker who targeted a schoolgirl say they have had a good response to an appeal for information.
The girl was assaulted in Whitby town centre in an alleyway between New Quay Road and Baxtergate between 8.30pm and 9pm on Wednesday before she managed to escape on her bike.
Police say they have had a good response to the appeal for witnesses and information so far, but have urged people to come forward if they can assist the investigation.
Detectives still want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area on Wednesday evening or a girl riding a bike in the town centre at about the time of the attack.
Patrols have been stepped up to provide extra reassurance for residents and visitors, while dozens of officers are said to be involved with the investigation into the serious sexual assault.
Investigators have said it may be possible residents or visitors to the resort witnessed the incident, but did not realise what was happening.
Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option one, and pass information to the force control room or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
