A BIKER and his pillion passenger have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in North Yorkshire.

The motorcycle collided with a car on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road outside Broadings Farm on the outskirts of Whitby at 11.45am today.

North Yorkshire Police said the black-coloured Dodge Caliber car travelling towards Whitby collided with the black Honda motorcycle, which was riding in the same direction.

The rider and pillion passenger were thrown from the bike and suffered serious injuries.

Both were airlifted to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by the Great North and Yorkshire air ambulances.

The 36-year-old car driver, from the Darlington area, was unhurt, but shocked.

The motorcycle riders are believed to be in their late 30s and from the Norfolk area.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Neil Campbell of Malton Road Policing Group on 101.
