A MOBILE breast cancer screening unit is unable to visit potential patients after vandals damaged a waste pipe and stole lightbulbs.

The van was parked next to the doctor’s surgery, in Hope Street, Crook , when the damage occurred between July 13 and 16.

PC Andrew Turner said reports had been received from staff at the unit that a waste pipe on the vehicle had been damaged, preventing it from being moved or used. Bulbs had also been stolen from the rear of the vehicle.

He said: “This unit is of the utmost importance with regard to the welfare of women in Crook and the surrounding areas. Those responsible for the theft and damage are potentially hampering its use.”

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to call Crook neighbourhood policing team on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800- 555-111.
