A SERIES of readings are being broadcast on a community radio station throughout the spring.

During the 40 days of lent, Radio Teesdale is broadcasting readings from Professor Tom Wright's book Lent for Everyone, based this year on Mark's gospel.

The series will be transmitted daily, until Saturday, April 14, at 7am, 1pm and 10pm on 102.1FM, 105.5FM and online at radioteesdale. co. uk The passages will be read by 55 members of the public, from across the dale, and ranging in age from 16 to 91.

Last year, the series won the bronze award in the Best Podcast category at the Christian Broadcasting Council Awards, in London.

Ruth Dent, from the station, said Prof Wright, the former Bishop of Durham, was happy about the broadcasts.

She said: "This is the third year we have done such readings and it is a lovely way of involving members of the community in our broadcasts.

"The vast majority of these readers had never stepped into a recording studio before Radio Teesdale started this initiative. We have been thrilled by the national interest that it has generated."
