A WOMAN who fell to her death from a building in Newcastle city centre has today been identified as 20-year-old Xijia Zhang from China.
It is believed that Xijia, from Beijing, was a student at Newcastle University.
Police and paramedics were called at 12.32pm yesterday after reports that a woman had fallen from Claremont Tower on the university campus.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said that inquiries were continuing and a report was being prepared for the coroner.
"Police are not looking for a third party in connection with the death," he added "The parents of Xijia Zhang who are currently still in China have been informed.
"Northumbria Police are working closely with Newcastle University where it is believed Xijia was a student to provide students, staff and friends of Xijia with any support that is needed."
