A WOMAN has died after falling from a bridge on a university campus in Newcastle, police said.
Officers were called to the Claremont Bridge which adjoins the Claremont Tower at Newcastle University at around 12.30pm following reports of the fall.
The woman died at the scene, Northumbria Police said.
A force spokesman said: "Police inquiries are ongoing.
"The woman appears to have fallen from the Claremont Bridge building which adjoins the Claremont Tower and is part of Newcastle University."
Students or staff who witnessed the fall will be offered counselling, a university spokeswoman said.
"We are working with the police to establish the facts in this tragic incident," she said.
"We will be offering counselling for any student or member of staff affected."
