POLICE hunting a woman who attacked a pensioner with a hammer have made an arrest.
A 47-year-old woman is being questioned after being detained late last night following the assault on an 84-year-old woman in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, yesterday morning.
The pensioner has now been released from hospital after being treated for head injuries.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “A 47-year-old woman from the Leyburn area was arrested late last night in connection with the incident.
“She is currently being held in police custody for questioning.”
The pensioner was hit four times over the head with a hammer and her own walking stick in the attack in public toilets near the Posthorn Tea and Coffee house.
The victim had just withdrawn a large amount of money, which was taken during the robbery.
