A LORRY driver arrested after a five-vehicle motorway crash which killed a four-year-old girl has been released on bail without charge, police said.

The 63-year-old man from Sunderland was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the collision on the M6 yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the scene, on the southbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 4, at around 12.30am.

The child, who has not been named, was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.
