A MAN who left his former girlfriend in a coma from which she never recovered has been found guilty of her murder.
A jury at Newcastle Crown Court has this afternoon found Paul Northey guilty of the murder of Kathryn Cook at her home in Stanley, County Durham, three years ago.
Ms Cook, who was 44, was found unconscious in a bedroom of her home in Penshaw Gardens, in June 2008.
In January 2009, Northey, 42, of Wylam Road, Stanley, was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment after he admitted a charge of wounding with intent. However, just four days later, Ms Cook died of bronchial pneumonia without ever having regained consciousness and Northey was subsequently charged with murder.
He was jailed for 14 years.
