AN ice-rink at the Centre for Life, in Newcastle, was declared open by Queen Rita from Newcastle Theatre Royal’s production of Sleeping Beauty.
The rink opens to the public on Saturday morning 11am for its 10th consecutive year…and will welcome a predicted 80,000 visitors during its short season (until mid Feb).
The attraction is now an integral part of the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative Winter Festival and is unusual for a temporary rink in that it is real ice, 50 metric tonnes of real ice, and has taken 1,000 man hours to build.
