Jenson Button believes the formbook can again be turned on its head this weekend as he targets one more grand prix win this year to end his season in style.
With just two races remaining, in Abu Dhabi and Brazil, Button is poised to finish a respectable second to double Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' championship.
Up until recently it was a position that held little interest for Button, but as the campaign draws to a close the 31-year-old is beginning to appreciate what it means.
"It's nice to know that if I do finish second I will have beaten a Red Bull (Mark Webber), which is good," said Button.
"Sebastian has done an unbelievable job this year, but he still has a team-mate, and to beat a guy in a Red Bull is great every time.
"And when Fernando (Alonso) is in tune with his car (Ferrari), it's great to beat him because he is super fast, and then there is also my team-mate (Lewis Hamilton) who is unbelievably quick.
"So yeah, it would be nice to finish in front of them in the championship."
However, after taking the chequered flag on three occasions this year, in Canada, Hungary and Japan, Button unsurprisingly wants more.
"As I've said before, if I could get another win then that would mean so much more to me this year," added Button.
"I've three already, and I'd like another in Abu Dhabi, Brazil, or maybe even both.
"Quite a few times this year, especially over the last few races, I have been the closest guy to Sebastian when he has won.
"We're certainly closer now than we were this time last year.
"We're much stronger at the moment, we're in a good place right now, which is a positive.
"We're still not quite as good as the Red Bulls, but they're not a big chunk ahead of us. It's very, very close.
"But when they get into the lead they don't make any mistakes, so it's tricky."
The Yas Marina circuit, in particular, has proven to be Vettel's stamping ground as, in the two years since its F1 debut, the 24-year-old German has won both races from pole.
Although the odds are heavily weighted in favour of Vettel making it a hat-trick in Abu Dhabi, Button does believes there is a chink of light in the armour.
"Abu Dhabi is a good circuit for them, but then again he (Vettel) had won the last two races in Suzuka prior to my win this year, so there are positives," said Button.
"It is a circuit that does suit their car. It will be tough to beat them there, so I would say Brazil is where we have more chance of winning."
