A TEENAGER found dying near a bus stop was yesterday named as 18-year-old Charlotte Davison.
Miss Davison, from Stanley, County Durham, was found unconscious, slumped by the side of West Road in Newcastle on Saturday night.
She was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary but she later died despite attempts to revive her.
One resident who lives at Graingerville South, but who asked not to be identified, spoke of his sadness at her death.
He said: “It is such a shock, a real shame. She had her whole life ahead of her.”
Another, who lived close to the bus stop where the girl was found, said: “Everybody is really shocked.
“Any death like this is always terrible, but for a girl that age to lose her life in such circumstances is awful. It’s very sad.”
Because the death was treated as unexplained, detectives cordoned off part of the busy road in the West End.
However, Northumbria Police yesterday confirmed the teenager’s death was not suspicious.
Two men, aged 18 and 42, were arrested by police probing the death and questioned on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs.
Councillor Dipu Ahad, who represents the Elswick ward on Newcastle City Council, said: “This is a tragic death.
People have been arrested and I’m sure the police will investigate this fully.
“I would ask people to be calm and await the outcome of the post mortem.”
Anyone who can help police with their investigation should call 03456-043-043, or Crimestoppers on 0800-555- 111.
