The temperature in Cyprus this time of year is in the high 20’s but my first day there with Mrs Blog was positively frosty.
You know what it’s like on the first day of your holidays. You’re up early, a bit of breakfast and then oiled up ready for a hard day of sunbathing by the pool. I was ready first and eagerly looking from the balcony to try and spot the best place for a sun bed. Mrs Blog had her bikini on and I didn’t take much notice of the ‘over dress’ she’d popped on for walking to the pool. - You know what it’s like lads! - Anyway, I marched off in front armed with towels, water, the day’s paper etc and we got settled on a couple of beds by the pool.
All was well until about 1.00pm when we decided to go for a spot of lunch. As we walked to the pool bar I noticed Mrs Blogs ‘over dress’. “Is that new?” I asked her. “Yea, do you like it?” She enquired. Now I’m not sure if it was the heat or I was just tired from the previous days travelling but I found myself saying, “Nah, you look fatter in that!” “What do you mean FATTER!?” raged Mrs B. If looks could kill!!
In my defence, I believe you can only say something like that to someone who ISN’T FAT! Anyway, Mrs B immediately returned to the room and the ‘fat dress’ was thrown out onto the balcony!
To make matters worse, (If that’s possible!) the next morning, when we emerged out onto our balcony, Steve, my son-in-law, who was staying in the adjoining apartment, had procured the dress and was WEARING IT! “Do I look FAT in this Diane?” sneers Steve. Fortunately, the wife saw the funny side!
For the record, Steve has since been known as Stephanie!
Upcoming Blogs.
As a lot of people in the village will know, Viv Longstaff is visiting her life long friend Caroline Rawson, (nee Cutting) in Australia and from Saturday she will be sending a few blogs on her trip. No doubt we’ll all be jealous to death but if I know Viv, they’ll make great reading!
