There were no such dramas for Kimblesworth as they crowned a first season in the Durham Senior League by clinching the title with an eight wicket drubbing of Durham City.

City were bowled out for 187, Kevin Dixon picking up five wickets. Stephen Meek then thrashed seven fours and nine sixes to notch a century in seeing his side to the championship inside 26 overs.

That result meant Boldon’s reign as champions was over, their home game with Horden ending in a draw to see them finish 20 points short. They did go all out for the maximum points that were necessary to pressurise Kimblesworth, declaring after 44 overs with 210- 6 on the board, but with only 38 overs at Horden (155-6) they couldn’t squeeze out a result.
