DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses to an incident inside a dales pub at the weekend in which a young woman was attacked with a bottle.

The incident happened around 11pm on Saturday, inside the Bonny Moor Hen pub on Front Street in Stanhope.

A disco was taking place at the time and the victim, a 22-year-old local woman, was in the pub with friends enjoying a night out.

Durham Police say the premises were very crowded and the victim found herself being jostled by another woman, who she did not recognise who was in the same part of the pub with her boyfriend.

When she protested at being barged into the victim had a drink thrown in her face before she was struck with a bottle.

This caused a deep cut to her forehead which had to be closed with several stitches by medics at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

When police arrived they arrested a 22-year-old woman from Stanley at the scene on suspicion of assault. After being interviewed she was released on police bail until early November, pending further enquiries.

Det Con Louise Guy said; "The Stanhope Show took place at the weekend and as a result all the pubs, including the Bonny Moor Hen were extremely busy on Saturday night.

"I am sure there will have been a number of witnesses who saw what happened and I would ask them to contact ourselves, or Crimestoppers if they are reluctant for any reason to speak directly to police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crook CID on 0345 6060 365 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
