A CANOE instructor from Darlington has died after his canoe capsized while leading a group of students.
The victim, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was involved in the incident on the River Eamont near Yanwath Hall, Penrith, yesterday afternoon.
It is being reported that a male student, 14, from Manchester, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with non life-threatening injuries.
He was apparently in a party of 11 pupils from the Manchester area. The other children were all unharmed.
Four other instructors on the trip were also unhurt.
The parents of the students are being contacted and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
The man died at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle.
