A 17-YEAR-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two teenagers were killed when a people carrier overturned, police said tonight.

The crash happened on the A66 at Thornaby, Stockton, Teesside, at around 5.45am when police discovered the Toyota Corolla Verso on its roof.

Two local 17-year-olds were found dead at the scene, Cleveland Police said.

Four passengers, also local and teenagers, survived with either minor or no injuries and were released from the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

A force spokeswoman said: "A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

"He was interviewed and bailed pending further inquiries."

The A66 was closed eastbound for eight hours to allow for recovery and investigative work to be carried out.

The spokeswoman said the families of the dead teenagers were being supported by specially trained officers.
