Shildon's double North-East middle-distance champion Cameron Boyek took the under-20 1500m bronze medal in the UK Championships at Bedford yesterday.
The 17-year-old Northern Cross Country Championships bronze medallist ran a time of 3 mins 47.46 secs, clipping almost two seconds off his previous personal best as he finished behind Aldershot's Jonathan Hay (3:44.78) and Phoenix's Charlie Grice (3:46.91).
Gateshead Harrier Richard Kilty ran his fastest legal time this season, 21.16 secs, to finish third in the Under-23 200m, won by Birchfield's Danny Talbot in 21.01 secs. Clubmate Niall Flannery also finished third in the under-23 400m hurdles in a time of 49.76 secs as Nathan Woodward (Tamworth) and Jack Green (Kent) were credited with the same time, a championship-best 49.06, with Woodward getting the verdict.
In the women's events Durham City's Sophie Wood was third in the under-20 400m hurdlkes (60.20 secs), while there were also bronze medals for Gateshead's Emma Pringle (12.27m) in the under-20 triple jump and Shildon's Melissa Carr (12.54m) in the under-23 triple jump.
New Marske Harrier Mark Shaw finished fourth in the under-20 5,000m in a time of 14 mins 58.04 secs.
