TWO men who were arrested as a result of a dramatic police roadside raid have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Specialist officers from Durham Police swooped on a silver and blue Mitsubishi Animal at 6.20pm on Thursday night near Darlington.
Five marked vehicles stopped the Mitsubishi on the eastbound carrigeway of the A66 just outside Darlington causing some delays to motorists.
They detained the driver, a 46-year-old man from Hartlepool, at the scene and discovered two firearms during a search of his vehicle.
Police later went to an address in Darlington, were a 49-year-old man was arrested.
Both men were taken to Spennymoor police station where they were detained overnight for questioning.
They were subsequently released on police bail for further inquiries to be carried out.
